Clevedon Lions Club have now reviewed all the applications received for awards under their annual Dream Scheme using funds collected on their Santa Float at Christmas to support local community groups, charities and other organisations in the town.

The idea is that local groups apply for funding during January to help their ‘Dream’ project come to fruition, after they have been fund raising themselves. The Lions are then able to consider topping up the groups own cash raising efforts. This year 12 awards have been made totalling £5,980.

An award presentation ceremony will be held at the end of February when the cheques and awards will be distributed, meanwhile here is a list of the award winning organisations.

Clevedon Community Centre £850
The Barn Youth Centre £350
Clevedon Cricket Club (Youth section) £600
Clevedon Comedy Theatre Club £400
Clevedon Utd Junior Football Club £400
St Johns School £300
Great Western Air Ambulance £530
Foreal Youth Services £250
1st Clevedon Scouts £750
Happy Companions Club £300
Yeo Moor School £250
Clevedon Air Training Corps £1000

We’ve been delighted to help so many local groups – the number of applications shows how much excellent voluntary activity takes place in Clevedon.
For the Lions Club, it’s important that the public see the benefit that their Christmas donations bring – supporting young and old as well as encouraging more voluntary participation.
The successful organisations help literally hundreds of Clevedon people – this scheme has been a great success – which we expect to repeat again next year.
Making the decisions about who to help means some will be disappointed – we can’t help everyone from our limited budget, but the more support we get for the events we organise means that the pot of money available next year should be bigger and bring even more community benefits.
